“I’d like to thank the Lord Mayor and his team for their availability on a Sunday afternoon and also for the work they do for their council. I have only two comments: the first is about transparency in the management of funds. I have observed with satisfaction while entering the council office the public posting of information related to sponsored contracts with the figures available. We note equally that projects selected and financed have relevant impact on the living conditions of the populations; which contribute to attaining Millennium Development Objectives.
The second point I’d mention is the link between the sustainability of investments by the WB and the effectiveness of development. The agreement between the Bank and the Cameroonian government for the financing of the PNDP will be more effective if the government of this country would adopt the same global approach, as concerns transparency in the management of public funds. That would certainly be the most visible and permanent impact of our commitment. For besides the transformation related to the infrastructures which come out, the World Bank is sensitive to the most important aspect which is that the government will adopt the same approach at other levels.”
