Observations

Project’s development objective (PDO): Enable communities to contribute to combating land degradation in critical areas

Rural communities have developed participatory integrated land and water management plans that have positive impacts on native biodiversity and carbon sequestration, as demonstrated by the increased number o f hectares under SLM and soil conservation practices that reduce soil and water runoff and erosion

The measures concern only 129 MP over the 277 that will be implemented. Therefore, the process of collecting this data will be done on a regular basis until the end of the project.

Details in annex 3

Enhanced uptake o f adopted SLM “best bet” practices as determined by the baseline survey and results from the GEF-funded work on Alternatives to Slash and Burn (e.g. 10% more area under SLM by mid-term and 20% by project end)

0

The indicator concerns mainly the Center Region. Consultants are on the field to collect data. And the value will be estimated by doing the ratio of the area under “best bet” practice over the total   cultivable area

GEF Operational Goal: Enhance the sustainable land and natural resource management components of the PAPNDP project by complementing the local and national benefits of SLM with key global benefits.

There is a total of 7 projects concerning community forest, of which 2 are already completed (Bangangte, Kouoptamo), 3 under implementation (Santchou, Okola, Mayo Darlé). For Yoko the contribution of the council is still awaited and the project of Ngaoundéré II is in the process of finalization by the consultant before the approbation and the implementation.

To be measured in September

85 plots (10 in the Adamaoua Région, 15 in the Centre, 30 in the North and 30 the West Region) have been put in place to measure that indicator. Each plot consist of 1 unit cultivated without any practice and another one with the practice introduced. The indicator will be measured in September when maize will be harvested.

Increase adoption of agro-pastoral systems in the North/Adamaoua Provinces

The indicator is an estimation of the number of persons that have adopted (or effectively put in place in their farm) the practice learned over the total number of persons trained.

Data collection is still going on, mainly in Adamaoua.
